Money - What Is It?

Core functions of money are to act as general medium of exchange and storage of value.
  • Exchange - It represents the value of an asset, product, service, labor, idea, etc. allowing the exchange of very diverse items. As such it is the prerequisite for any complex society allowing for the great variety of labor and services which are the base for the abundance we enjoy today.  
  • Storage - As means of storage it allows us to
    • Save that value to be used later, when need arises  
    • Accumulate it's power enabling us to carry out large projects. The latter is the source of money's great power to create or to destroy. It is essential for all large enterprises creative or destructive.
